License Renewal Deadline- May 31, 2020

The deadline for Florida license renewal is fast approaching! With only a few months left, do you have the required continuing education needed to renew?

Licensed veterinarians must renew license every 2 years on even numbered years. A Florida veterinarian must complete a minimum of 30 hours of CE in this 2 year period. Below are requirements for license renewal:

  • Completion of 30 hours of CE in veterinary medicine every 2 years.

  • No less than 1 hour of CE must be in the area of dispensing legend drugs.

  • No less than 2 hours of CE must be in the area of the laws and rules governing the practice of veterinary medicine.

  • No more than 15 hours can be non interactive, correspondence courses. Computer online programs that involve online , real time, live or delayed participatory questioning or responses are not correspondence courses.

  • No more than 5 hours in complementary alternative medicine modalities.

  • Five hours of CE in laws and rules may be obtained by attending a full day or 8 hours of a Board of Veterinary Medicine meeting where disciplinary hearings are conducted by the board.

The SFVMA offers 9 Continuing Education Meetings [for a total of 18 credit hours] and one (1) annual Pharmacy Law Continuing Education Meeting for three (3) credit hours.

An SFVMA member can easily fulfill their 30 credit requirement for renewal of Florida State License by coming to all of the meetings in a two (2) year period. What a great incentive to join the SFVMA!
